"Raku" refers to a traditional Japanese pottery technique distinguished by rapid firing and swift cooling, processes that lead to the formation of cracks.
These unpredictable cracks contribute to the aesthetic appeal and depth of the pottery. Raku firings, being both rare and costly, differ significantly from regular kiln firings, which are common in every pottery studio.
Raku requires open-air conditions and demands specialized skills and considerable physical effort. Each time I need to conduct a raku firing, I drive two hours to the countryside and spend almost the entire day there.
Additionally, the high breakage rate and the challenges associated with achieving satisfactory results contribute to the expense of raku. Despite these challenges, the unique and unpredictable nature of each piece makes the effort worthwhile.
Size: 16 x 13 cm
This ceramic is not waterproof. It is best styled with dried flowers and branches, intended for decorative purposes.
Get present! When purchasing a Raku vase, you will receive a bouquet of dried flowers and branches as a gift
